PIN 2 HOT

PIN 2 HOT is the latest iteration of this city’s constantly inventive, ever-evolving Akron Sound. Take seasoned, pedigreed musicians playing recognizable rock ‘n’ roll/folk/soul melodies and riffs, and deconstruct/reassemble them in the style of the great Free Jazz improviser, Albert Ayler. We’re a “noise” band, but where so many in this genre strive to sonically express pain and anger, our approach is one of delight and fun. We are Chris Butler (guitar), Bob Ethington (percussion), Corey Jenkins (bass), Michael Aylward (guitar), Jacob Trombetta (pedal steel), Matt Reese (cello) and Taylor McIntosh (reeds). We play the classics…but like you’ve never heard them before.

Matthew Thurber ~ Holy People ~ Keith/James/Nick ~ Seth Troyer

Come to Hive Mind for a night of experimental 16mm and digital film, performance art, and music from New York and Akron based artists.

Doors 7pm~~~Show 8pm~~~$5-10 suggested

MATTHEW THURBER "FLEEGIX"
"FLEEGIX" is a science-fiction film set on Earth, although some of the population have become convinced that they are in fact living on the planet Mars. The film investigates the nature of belief systems which overlap, co-exist, and create conflict in any human society. Its subject is the nature of reality. It takes place in a recognizeable world of parks, parking lots, gas stations and video stores, which makes the episodes stranger and more tangible. It does not create a fantasy world: the extraordinary is mapped onto a recognizable landscape.
The film is inspired by and loosely adapted from a Young Adult novel by Daniel Pinkwater, "Alan Mendolsohn, the Boy From Mars," in which alienated high school students Leonard and Alan escape boredom through developing telepathic powers and learn to travel to other dimensions overlapping their own

HOLY PEOPLE
Holy people is intense, melodic, experimental (and sometimes mystical) music meets physical clown, Leah Wishcenaw. In addition to being a performer and musician, Wishcenaw is a celebrated comic artist and creator/publisher of Happiness Comix Magazine.

KEITH FREUND/JAMES WAITE/NICK SPOLARICH
These three regional artists will present instructive performance for three video channels, including coded video, live photoshop painting, and sampled audio.

SETH TROYER "WRONALD WANTS TO BE A BARBER"
Local comic and film artist will be showing the first two episodes of his surreal, queer science fiction soap opera, "Wronald Wants To Be A Barber. Troyer's films combine frantic characters, digital glitches, romance, dystopia, music and intentionally erratic editing to create strangely uplifting abstract narratives.

Bobb Hatt~Janet~EENY

Hive Mind brings you another noise/experimental show for your viewing (dis)pleasure. AND it's a Saturday night so you know u can cut loose and get ur shirt a lil greasy or cry a lil bit. See u there?

DOORS 8PM
MUSIC 9PM

BOBB HATT (Cbus)
Wild saxaphoning and guitaring with innumerable crunchy FX pedals, costuming, performance, noise and screaming. Kind of what I always wanted out of harsh noise music. Conveniently located a couple hours south (although frequently on the road), Bobb is an integral and devoted piece of the OH experimental community pie and we're so excited to have them back!

JANET (St. Louis)
Ritualistic dada noise burlesque

EENY (Akron)
If I were to invent a genre to describe EENY, it would maybe be something like post-vaporwave-queer-freeware-noise. But since I'm not really a genre person and I probably just really butchered that, you'll just have to come and decide for yourself.

FREE BLACK!
Free Black! is a Hip-Hop collective consisting of Hip-Hop artist Floco Torres & Producer/Drummer Holbrook Riles III aka HR3. The Free Black! mantra is that "There isn't one way to be black." There are many stereotypes with blackness specifically that suggest that we aren't multi-faceted people & through our music we attack those stereotypes head on. In embracing our individuality we can learn to be more accepting of ourselves & where we come from as well as our peers.
The collective was created in 2017 through collaboration between both artists. Their self-titled album will be released on October 26th via Bandcamp & Soundcloud.

PEACHCURLS
If anything defines today’s artists, separate from the digital world where they thrive, it is that they refuse to be categorized or adhere to codified traditions. Peachcurls is an artist for today. In Peachcurls’ music, the Black-American, Cleveland, Ohio raised artist/producer is not bound by stylistic barriers. His music authentically weaves from heavily funk-influenced psychedelic music that provoke movement, to warm saturated lo-fi hip-hop. Mixing vintage sounds with modern production, Peachcurls has created his own world of music, and you’re invited.
As the former lead guitarist and vocalist of a rock band (Thaddeus Anna Greene), Peachcurls delivers uplifting, soulful, and infectious vocal performances; complemented by lush, saturated, soul-rock inspired guitar. With the addition of formidable and reflective rap lyrics, and deep drum grooves that are felt as much as heard, Peachcurls’ live show is refreshing; it moves the audience and it feels good.
